JEE Registration To Close SaturdayThe registration window to take the JEE (Main) is coming to close today (December 15, 24.00 hrs.) as per the schedule. According to sources from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), about 12.82 lakh applicants have applied for this maiden nationwide engineering entrance test from across the country so far, out of which a mere 1.74 lakhs have registered to appear for the test in the online mode. As was reported earlier the JEE (Main) will be conducted in April 2013 in online (computer based) and offline (paper-pencil) mode.

JEE (Main), the first of two tier exam prescribed for the admissions to engineering courses in the country, coupled with minimum 40% marks scored in class XII boards will be considered for admission to non-IIT engineering colleges run by states and central government. The top 1.5 lakhs of the JEE (Main) in top 20 percentile in the class XII boards shall be eligible for JEE (Advanced), the second entrance exam prescribed for admissions to prestigious IITs.

CBSE has said that the syllabus for JEE (Main) has not changed and the test will be in line with erstwhile All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) in terms of difficulty level.

Apart from the IITs, National Institutes of Technology, the Delhi Technological University and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs), all colleges in Gujarat and Nagaland-the only two states to join the JEE (Main) this year -will screen students based on their marks in the JEE (Main). The remaining states are likely to participate in JEE (Main) from 2014.
