DU May Put CATE on Hold For This YearCiting the reasons of ongoing preparation for introduction of 4-year undergraduate program at Delhi University (DU), the department of English is likely to put on hold the annual Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE), the flagship entrance exam at DU for BA in English with Honors.

CATE was introduced in 2010 with about 17 colleges participating which rose to 25 in 2011. In the academic session that started in 2012 saw 21 colleges granting the admissions to BA in English with Honors programs based on the CATE score.

Actually The Department of English at DU should have been prepared to conduct the exam by this time with just about a month and half to go for the admission process to start. Given the circumstances the department is contemplating to decide on withholding the examination, though no final decision has been taken yet, insisted a senior officer at DU.

“The test is likely to be put on hold for the time being keeping in view the implementation of the new four-year-undergraduate program. Usually, by this time, the English department starts the preparation for the test after receiving the confirmations from different colleges of their participation,” the official said.

While this year the university will conduct the admission to BA English (Hon) on the basis of class XII board marks, the CATE may resume next year as usual, propose the admission committee.
