The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) for admission in engineering and pharmacy courses has been scrapped. Students will now have to appear only for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The JEE will be conducted on April 7, 2013 and will have a single paper for Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

The state education department has decided that equal weightage will be given to HSC (science) final score and the JEE score. Both the exams will be given 50-50 per cent weightage in declaration of the final merit list on the basis of which admissions in engineering and pharmacy courses will be granted.

Students who are willing to try for admissions in medical and dental colleges too will have to appear for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) which is also a national level medical entrance exam. NEET shall be conducted in the state in Gujarati apart from English and Hindi.
