Haryana State Board Reduces Passing PercentageHaryana State Board of Technical Education (HSBTE) has declared discontinuation of the system of grace marks from the examinations in 2012-13. The board has issued a notification to that effect to all Principals of government, government-aided and self-financing polytechnics in the state. The board has also notified that the pass percentage for all the subjects, irrespective of the branch shall be reduced to 33% from current 35% in lieu of doing away the system of grace marks.

Any notification previously issued regarding grace marks shall stand cancelled, an HSBTE spokesman said here on Monday.

According to the new system, a candidate would be declared passed if he or she obtained at least 33 per cent marks in each theory paper and 40 per cent in each practical examination.

A student would be promoted to the next semester irrespective of number of attempts in different subjects, with the condition that to qualify for the 5th semester admission the student must have cleared all the sessionals and final theory  & practical exams of first semester.

Similarly, a student would not be allowed admission in sixth semester if he or she has not cleared theory and practicals of second semester.

All the students having reappeared in first semester would appear in November/December 2012 examination as per the new syllabus, the communication said.
