Maharashtra Pravesh Niyantran Samiti Scraps 250 Medical AdmissionsIn an unprecedented move, since it was formed in 2003, the Pravesh Niyantran Samiti (PNS) in Maharashatra has declared admissions to more than 250 medical and dental seats as scrapped, which were allegedly made in violation of the admission norms. This has proved to be a major setback to the colleges, mostly run by the politicians or their family members where the malpractices were rampant as published in various media reports.

There were complaints filed by several students and/or their parents about the malpractices being followed in 17 private and unaided medical and dental colleges, following which the state government of Maharashtra had set up an inquiry. The meeting on Friday, wherein the decision to scrap the admissions was taken, was chaired by Justice D K Deshmukh. Eleven are the medical colleges and six dental colleges in the list of seventeen colleges on which the action was taken, the media reports say.

However, the decision which has come so late and though in favour of the meritorious students, who filed the complaint and legitimate claimants to the admission in place of those 250 seats, will have lost almost a year as the fresh process for their admission has to begin after Supreme Court’s permission.
