Odisha Rejects NEET For Medical AdmissionsThe Health and Family Welfare Secretary of Odisha Government, P K Mohapatra on Monday announces that the state will prefer the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) for admissions to under graduate courses in Medical Colleges to the nation wide National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), citing the reasons that the state required more Odia doctors and the students from the state may not be compete with others in a national test.

The acceptance of NEET would mean allowing the students from other state to be admitted to the medical colleges in Odisha, which would not be in the interest of the state, according to Mohapatra.

Health and family welfare minister Damodar Rout said the state has presently implemented a policy where the students are required to work in rural areas for certain period or pay penalty. Once the students come through All India Medical Examination (NEET) route, the state may not be able to make it mandatory for students to accept rural posting, according to the Minister.
