Pune University to launch online entrance exam for PhDUniversity of Pune (UoP) would be the first university in India to launch PhD entrance test online to facilitate students staying abroad to enroll for pursuing their Doctorate at the university without having to come to Pune just for that.

Vijay Khare, director of UoP’s International Students’ Centre (ISC), is reported to have told TOI that, key feature of the entrance test is that foreign students will not be required to travel to the city for writing the test, but will be able to apply as well as appear for the examination online from their respective foreign locations.

A special computer software has been procured by UoP to facilitate individual monitoring of the online PhD entrance test. The candidates will have to secure a prescribed technology kit – webcam and Internet video call platform like Skype, for aiding the monitoring process.

While the university has already released an initial program for the online PhD entrance test on its website http://www.unipune.ac.in, it will soon also post a detailed notification prescribing the requirement to be met by the candidates to appear for the online test. Online examination will be conducted on December 23 for which the registration will open on November 6 and will last until November 25.

Khare said, “Earlier, foreign students aspiring for PhD courses at the UoP would be required to travel to the city for writing the entrance test. This was viewed as one of the key contributing factors behind lesser number of foreign students seeking PhD enrollment at the university and its affiliated colleges.”
